Lead Software Engineer, Backend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of critical components from start to finish, ensuring measurable enhancements in system quality, scalability, and reliability.

• Manage the delivery of major features or systems: clarify requirements, design solutions, execute, launch, and iterate.

• Design and develop scalable backend services, APIs, and data pipelines that underpin core product functionality.

• Drive decisions in system design, balancing scalability, performance, reliability, and cost considerations.

• Establish metrics for quality measurement in your area (success metrics, testing strategy, observability) and automate processes whenever feasible.

• Lead structured experimentation: articulate hypotheses, assess results, and convert insights into product and system enhancements.

• Enhance operational readiness: focusing on deployment automation, monitoring/alerting, incident response, and performance optimization.

• Guide engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and provide hands-on technical mentorship.

• Influence engineering best practices, architectural decisions, and long-term technical strategy.

⛳️ Requirements

• Overall: 6+ years of experience in software engineering.

• Relevant: 3+ years of experience building and deploying production systems within product teams.

• Technical (hands-on coding): 5+ years of experience.

• Strong foundation in software engineering principles and advanced experience in system design.

• Proficient in hands-on coding with Python and/or TypeScript (or similar), developing APIs, services, and data pipelines.

• Experience in designing and scaling distributed systems in live production settings.

• Extensive experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), CI/CD practices, automated testing, and observability tools.

• Proven track record of owning systems from design through production and iteration.

• Experience thriving in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with changing requirements.

• Strong mindset for experimentation: define metrics, develop evaluation methods, and iterate swiftly.
