Lead Forward Deployed Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Lead and nurture the team: recruit, mentor, and develop a group of FDEs; establish clear expectations; conduct 1:1 meetings, feedback cycles, and performance development.

• Manage capacity planning and staffing: distribute engineers across multiple strategic projects, oversee workload and utilization, and proactively identify potential delivery bottlenecks.

• Oversee project delivery management: take ownership of engineering delivery across deployments — including milestones, dependencies, risk management, escalation paths, and aligning stakeholders.

• Implement time tracking and delivery visibility: create efficient tracking and reporting systems that provide reliable insights into effort, progress, and capacity without added bureaucracy.

• Offer technical leadership and escalation support: guide architectural and implementation decisions, review designs/code as necessary, and resolve high-severity issues in production environments.

• Develop scalable field engineering practices: create reusable patterns, playbooks, and standards that enhance reliability, maintainability, and speed across deployments.

• Influence the product through field insights: convert recurring customer requirements into actionable product proposals and collaborate with Product/Core Engineering to minimize one-off solutions over time.

• Collaborate with customer engineering and enterprise stakeholders: engage directly with customer teams (architecture, security, platform) to achieve results and build enduring technical trust.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, systems integration, DevOps, or data engineering roles with significant production responsibilities.

• Proven track record of leading and developing engineers (e.g., formal management, team lead duties, coaching, hiring, performance enhancement).

• Demonstrated success in delivering complex technical projects within large enterprise settings, managing multiple stakeholders and constraints.

• Strong expertise in backend engineering, APIs, cloud platforms, Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, and databases — capable of reviewing designs and guiding production decisions.

• Ability to independently own and manage smaller technical workstreams from start to finish and to engage in debugging/implementation as required.

• Excellent planning, prioritization, capacity assessment, and risk management skills; clarifies delivery expectations without imposing unnecessary processes.

• Confident and credible in interactions with customer engineering teams and senior technical stakeholders; possesses clear written and verbal communication skills.

• Strong plus: experience in building or integrating AI/LLM-powered systems (agent workflows, orchestration, evaluation, vector DBs, guardrails), particularly in forward-deployed or solutions engineering contexts.
