This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee the game design function for one or more projects, establishing design direction and ensuring consistent execution across the team.
• Manage and uphold design documentation, which includes pillars, feature specifications, tuning objectives, content guidelines, and playtesting frameworks.
• Collaborate with client stakeholders, internal discipline leads, and production to ensure alignment on scope, priorities, milestones, and design quality.
• Lead a team of designers focusing on gameplay, systems, UX, and content design, providing feedback, mentorship, and daily guidance.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of live content, feature updates, and seasonal or rotating gameplay initiatives.
• Work closely with engineering, art, QA, and production teams to implement, iterate, and refine gameplay systems and player-facing content.
• Facilitate design reviews, playtests, and feedback loops that enhance clarity, usability, balance, and overall player experience.
• Aid in triaging gameplay issues, regressions, exploits, and live player-impacting challenges, partnering with QA and cross-functional teams to develop solutions.
• Leverage player feedback, qualitative insights, and available data to uncover opportunities for improving engagement, clarity, and player sentiment.
• Recognize design risks early on and propose pragmatic solutions that safeguard quality, schedule, and maintainability.
• Contribute to the establishment of internal design standards, best practices, and enhancements to team processes across the studio.
• A minimum of 6 years of game design experience, including at least 2 years in a lead or senior design capacity.
• At least one shipped title as a design lead or senior designer on a commercially released game.
• In-depth understanding of gameplay systems, player motivation, progression, balance, pacing, and feedback loops.
• Experience in supporting live or evolving games, encompassing post-launch content, live tuning, or feature iteration.
• Excellent documentation and communication skills, with the capability to create clear specifications and facilitate productive cross-discipline discussions.
• Proven track record of leading and mentoring designers in a fast-paced production environment.
• Experience working directly with external partners or clients, confidently managing feedback, expectations, and changing priorities.
• Proficiency in Unreal Engine 5, including hands-on design implementation and iteration within the engine.
• Strong working knowledge of Blueprints for gameplay scripting, prototyping, and feature support.
• Ability to engage in light scripting in C++, especially in collaboration with engineering teams to support gameplay systems and implementation needs.
• Strong player empathy and an instinct for enhancing real player outcomes through design.
