This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the architecture and technical roadmap for the team's pipelines, integrations, and datastores, making informed decisions on the trade-offs that influence them.
• Collaborate with leadership to prioritize challenges and assist in translating broad objectives into actionable tasks for the team.
• Establish the standards that the team adheres to: infrastructure as code, schema contracts, observability, testing, on-call practices, and incident response protocols.
• Oversee the replication pipelines that transfer Salesforce data into our Aurora and Postgres databases using Informatica and Fivetran.
• Provide direction for the production Postgres databases supporting our applications, focusing on query performance, indexing, access control, and migration reviews.
• Maintain high standards for the outbound jobs that deliver data to external partners and the inbound pipelines that process and validate partner files, ensuring auditability and reprocessing capabilities.
• Collaborate with engineering management on planning, scoping, and team development, representing Data Engineering in cross-team technical discussions.
• Mentor engineers at various levels and elevate the team's performance through code reviews, focusing on delivering results through others rather than solely through personal output.
• Lead the team during production incidents as the senior technical authority, and implement systemic solutions to prevent future occurrences.
• 8+ years of experience in building and operating production data systems, with significant time spent directing the technical strategy of a team or major initiative.
• Proven ability to create clarity from ambiguity, establishing a direction that others can effectively follow rather than merely executing clearly defined tasks.
• Extensive SQL proficiency, encompassing query optimization, indexing, schema design, and managing databases under production loads.
• Strong familiarity with replication and ETL/ELT tools such as Fivetran, Informatica, or Airbyte, with the discernment to select the most suitable method for specific challenges.
• Basic knowledge of data services offered by AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Proficient in writing and reviewing Ruby on Rails or a similar programming language.
• Capability to establish and advocate for schema contracts across systems and teams that are not fully under your control.
• Calm and decisive leadership during production data incidents, coupled with the discipline to implement lasting solutions.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to align multiple teams around a shared technical vision.
• Experience with and a willingness to utilize agentic AI coding tools.
