This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Collaborate with the Head of Data to take charge of the technical strategy for data engineering, ensuring our technology stack scales in alignment with business growth.
• Design, maintain, and enhance robust data pipelines and architecture to facilitate reliable analytics and minimize latency over time.
• Develop a platform that empowers analysts to self-serve and allows stakeholders to make informed decisions.
• Help define a repeatable architecture for expansion across multiple territories.
• Supervise the implementation of data models and frameworks that support analytics and business intelligence initiatives.
• Promote engineering best practices in areas such as testing, monitoring, version control, automation, and practical design.
• Lead code review sessions, elevate quality standards, and ensure proactive management of technical debt.
• Mentor engineers, assist with career development, and offer light people management while remaining hands-on.
• Stay informed about industry trends, introducing tools and approaches that future-proof the data platform without creating unnecessary complexity.
• Possesses a background as a software engineer with a specialization in data/platform engineering.
• Exhibits strong foundational skills in software engineering.
• Demonstrates strong proficiency in Python or equivalent production engineering skills.
• Has SQL skills; experience with Snowflake is advantageous, but depth in engineering is prioritized over specific tool familiarity.
• Displays breadth in data modeling and architecture, with the ability to clearly articulate trade-offs.
• Familiar with orchestration frameworks such as Dagster, Airflow, or Prefect.
• Holds hands-on experience with modern data warehouses/lakehouse patterns and cloud infrastructure.
• Comfortable with platform/infrastructure considerations across tools like dbt, Docker, Terraform, AWS, Iceberg, or similar technologies.
• Acts as a hands-on leader: prioritizing data engineering first, with people management as a secondary focus.
• Flourishes in a start-up or scale-up environment, bringing a pragmatic and impact-oriented mindset.
