Lead AI Engineer – AI Systems & Automation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Spearhead the design and development of AI systems that enhance insurance workflow automation.

• Create AI orchestration layers that integrate LLMs, backend services, and business workflows.

• Take charge of comprehensive AI system design, encompassing inference pipelines, routing, caching, and fallback strategies.

• Influence engineering decisions concerning latency, reliability, cost, and scalability of AI services.

• Lead the implementation of observability systems, including logging, monitoring, tracing, and alerting.

• Review and provide guidance on backend AI implementations across engineering teams.

• Work collaboratively with product, backend, DevOps, and operations teams to deliver end-to-end AI functionalities.

• Troubleshoot intricate production issues in distributed AI systems and conduct root-cause analysis.

• Establish engineering standards and best practices for the development of AI systems.

• Mentor engineers and enhance the technical execution quality across teams.

• Extensive backend or AI engineering experience in production settings.

• Proven experience in building or scaling AI systems such as LLMs, embeddings, recommendation systems, or automation workflows.

• Exceptional system design skills with a background in distributed systems.

• Experience with production inference pipelines and AI orchestration.

• Strong debugging skills in high-scale, latency-sensitive environments.

• Familiarity with observability, monitoring, and incident response.

• Demonstrated ability to lead technical execution within cross-functional teams.

• Strong ownership mindset with the capability to drive projects from start to finish.

• Comfortable operating in fast-paced, globally distributed teams.
