Lead AI Engineer – AI Systems, Automation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Switzerland.

📋 Description

• Oversee the design and development of AI systems that enhance insurance workflow automation.

• Design AI orchestration layers that integrate large language models (LLMs), backend services, and business workflows.

• Take ownership of the complete AI system design, which includes inference pipelines, routing, caching, and fallback strategies.

• Make engineering decisions regarding the latency, reliability, cost, and scalability of AI services.

• Lead the implementation of observability systems, including logging, monitoring, tracing, and alerting.

• Evaluate and provide guidance on backend AI implementations across various engineering teams.

• Collaborate with product, backend, DevOps, and operations teams to deliver comprehensive AI features.

• Troubleshoot complex production issues within distributed AI systems and spearhead root-cause analysis.

• Establish engineering standards and best practices for AI system development.

• Mentor engineers to improve technical execution quality across teams.


⛳️ Requirements

• Solid backend or AI engineering experience in production settings.

• Proven experience in building or scaling AI systems, including LLMs, embeddings, recommendation systems, or automation workflows.

• Strong system design capabilities with a background in distributed systems.

• Familiarity with production inference pipelines and AI orchestration.

• Excellent debugging skills in high-scale, latency-sensitive environments.

• Experience with observability, monitoring, and incident management.

• Demonstrated ability to lead technical execution within cross-functional teams.

• Strong sense of ownership and the capability to drive projects from start to finish.

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, globally distributed environment.
