This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Provide software development expertise as part of a cross-functional team supporting the Department of Veteran Affairs.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality software solutions that align with mission objectives and technical standards.
• Work closely with various VA teams and stakeholders to convert functional requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable code.
• Conduct peer code reviews and offer constructive feedback.
• Ensure compliance with coding standards, secure development practices, and performance optimization guidelines.
• Develop and sustain automated unit and integration tests.
• Troubleshoot and resolve intricate technical issues across various environments.
• Engage in sprint planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, demos, and retrospectives.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows.
• Maintain and enhance existing products to boost performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Identify and address technical debt.
• Assist with production deployments and conduct root cause analysis when issues occur.
• Suggest improvements to tools, frameworks, and development processes.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• A minimum of 2 years of professional software development experience.
• Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining enterprise or mission-critical systems.
• Experience working within agile development teams.
• Knowledge of secure coding practices and application security principles.
• Proficiency in Java and Spring Development.
• Familiarity with modern software frameworks and development tools within the JavaScript ecosystem.
• Knowledge of Maven, SQL, and Docker.
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or similar).
• Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.
• Proven experience integrating AI tools (such as GitHub Copilot) into daily development workflows to enhance delivery, write efficient code, and improve test coverage.
• Strong analytical and debugging abilities.
• Capability to deconstruct complex technical problems into actionable solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience in supporting federal or regulated environments (preferred).
• Experience in modernizing legacy systems (preferred).
• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (preferred).
• Expected 1099 rate range for this role is $60/Hr - $85/Hr.
• If converted to W2, expected salary range for this role is $65,000 - $95,000.
