Junior Quantitative Researcher, STEM PhD

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Hong Kong.

📋 Description

• Create, validate, and implement predictive signals across various asset classes utilizing a mix of statistical techniques, machine learning, and AI-driven research processes.

• Analyze model performance, signal deterioration, profit and loss attribution, and unforeseen trading results.

• Examine order book dynamics, execution expenses, liquidity, and venue behaviors to guide both signal formulation and execution tactics.

• Assist in designing and enhancing internal automated systems that streamline segments of the research workflow — including data exploration, hypothesis generation, backtesting setup, results summarization, and report creation.

• Collaborate closely with traders, engineers, and fellow researchers to transform concepts into live, monitored strategies.

⛳️ Requirements

• PhD (recently completed or nearing completion) in a quantitative discipline — such as Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Operations Research, or a related field.

• Proficient programming abilities in Python; familiar with the contemporary data and machine learning stack (NumPy, pandas, PyTorch or JAX, etc.).

• Practical experience in developing AI agents and LLM-based systems — for instance, tool-using agents, multi-step reasoning frameworks, retrieval systems, or evaluation mechanisms. We are looking for individuals who have built tangible projects, not just theoretical knowledge.

• Strong foundation in statistics, probability, and machine learning, with the discernment to differentiate between real and spurious results.

• Authentic enthusiasm for financial markets and trading, demonstrated through coursework, personal projects, competitions, internships, or self-directed learning.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capable of clearly conveying technical concepts to a diverse audience.
