This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Philippines.
• Monitor and respond to emails from clients and the ATO.
• Assess the daily job queue in practice management software.
• Follow up on pending client document requests.
• Prepare individual income tax returns including salary/wages, investment income, rental properties, and basic CGT events.
• Prepare tax returns for companies, trusts, and partnerships under the supervision of a senior.
• Input and reconcile data from documents provided by clients, such as payment summaries, bank statements, dividend statements, and health insurance information.
• Prepare annual PAYG withholding reports and perform reconciliations.
• Verify prefilled ATO data in the tax agent portal against client source documents.
• Input SMSF transaction data from bank statements, broker reports, and member contributions.
• Prepare SMSF financial statements, including operating statements, balance sheets, and member statements.
• Reconcile investment portfolio valuations as of 30 June.
• Assist in the preparation of SMSF annual returns.
• Lodge transfer balance account reports (TBACs) and rollover reports under supervision.
• Draft financial statements for companies, trusts, and individuals from client-supplied files in Xero/MYOB/QBO or from manual records.
• Conduct basic reconciliations in Xero/MYOB (bank, GST, PAYG, super).
• Identify and report coding errors or unusual transactions for senior review.
• Prepare workpapers and supporting schedules for depreciation, loan accounts, and Division 7A calculations.
• Prepare both quarterly and monthly Business Activity Statements (BAS).
• Reconcile GST collected and paid against the general ledger.
• Compute PAYG instalment calculations and variations.
• Lodge BAS through the ATO tax agent portal.
• Make phone calls to the ATO to follow up on client account issues such as debt, lodgement history, payment plans, and penalty remissions.
• Manage ATO correspondence and link responses to the appropriate client files.
• Request ATO transaction statements and tax account summaries via Online Services for Agents.
• Lodge or monitor requests for ATO payment arrangements.
• Update client information (address, banking details, authorized contacts) through the portal.
• Prepare and submit ABN applications for new entities (companies, trusts, sole traders, partnerships) via the Australian Business Register.
• Apply for TFNs for new entities through the ATO portal when eligible.
• Register entities for GST, PAYG Withholding, and other necessary obligations.
• Assist with ASIC company incorporations and annual statement processing.
• Maintain entity registers, including officeholders, addresses, and share structures.
• Upload and file signed documents, ATO notices, and client correspondence in the document management system.
• Update job statuses and time entries in practice management software.
• Prepare client engagement letters and authority forms for signatures.
• Send lodgement confirmations and assessment notices to clients.
• Degree qualified in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (or currently pursuing).
• Solid understanding of Australian tax compliance and ATO lodgement processes.
• Proficient in Xero, including reconciliations, AP/AR, and BAS preparation.
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines concurrently.
• Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Proactive and solution-oriented mindset with a desire to learn.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting.
• Experience in SMSF administration is a plus.
• Experience working with remote or outsourced teams is advantageous.
