Java/Scala Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Partner with a leading client in the travel sector to create new Java services.

• Develop a comprehensive suite of backend microservices (reservation, cart, search, itinerary, ship/port/configuration, promotion, notifications, CMS, and more) that are essential for all consumer websites, booking engines, and mobile applications.

• Transition existing Scala/Play services to Java while ensuring a high-traffic production platform remains dependable throughout the migration process.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.

• Over 4 years of experience in building production backend services using Java 11+ (preferably Java 17).

• Strong proficiency in the language and JVM (including concurrency, memory management, and profiling).

• Familiarity with the Spring Framework, particularly Spring Boot.

• Practical experience in Scala (must be capable of reading and understanding code for migration to Java).

• Knowledge in designing RESTful APIs and working with JSON for service-to-service API development and consumption.

• Experience with relational databases (including schema design, query optimization, and ORM/data handling).

• Understanding of automated testing methodologies (both unit and integration testing).

• Proficient in using Git and Docker, with comfort in deploying to containerized environments.

• Solid understanding of the fundamentals of distributed systems: timeouts, retries, idempotency, caching, and graceful degradation.

• Good command of English for effective communication.
