This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Design, construct, and enhance data pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouse environments.
• Ingest and oversee data from SQL Server and various other sources.
• Create and sustain ETL/ELT processes utilizing Azure Data Factory, SSIS, or comparable platforms.
• Automate, monitor, and improve data flows to ensure quality, performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Establish data requirements and prioritize data projects in collaboration with departmental leaders, business users, and analytics teams.
• Work alongside database administrators, BI developers, data scientists, and application teams.
• Support Power BI initiatives and facilitate self-service analytics.
• Develop and maintain documentation for data pipelines, data models, and data governance processes.
• Generate and update a data dictionary for non-technical business users.
• Implement data governance, security policies, access controls, and regulatory compliance measures.
• Configure and uphold role-based and object-level security.
• Document and enhance data engineering change management policies and version-controlled environments.
• Research and suggest data engineering tools, frameworks, and solutions, especially Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.
• Address ad hoc data requests and troubleshoot data-related issues.
• Monitor and resolve integrations across SQL Server, DB2, Oracle, and cloud environments.
• Fix production incidents to guarantee data availability.
• Promote data best practices and encourage broader adoption of Power BI.
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is required.
• At least 5 years of experience in data engineering or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of SQL, including both DDL and DML.
• Familiarity with SQL Server, DB2, and Oracle.
• Experience with ETL/ELT tools like SSIS, Azure Data Factory, or equivalent.
• Understanding of Power BI development, administration, or deployment.
• Exposure to Microsoft Fabric or similar data platforms is highly preferred.
• Experience with source control tools such as Azure DevOps or Git.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Azure, or AWS/GCP, particularly in data storage and processing.
• Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language, such as Python, PowerShell, SQL, DAX, or MDX is advantageous.
• Knowledge of big data frameworks like Spark or streaming platforms such as Kafka is a plus.
• Experience with SQL Server Management Studio, Visual Studio, or similar IDEs.
• Familiarity with dimensional modeling using Kimball or comparable methodologies.
• Working knowledge of data lakes, lakehouses, and modern data infrastructure.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication abilities for engaging both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
