This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• The ISO Compliance Specialist is responsible for overseeing regulatory compliance for all U.S. independent system operators and regional transmission organizations, with a primary focus on ERCOT.
• Monitors and reports on rule changes across all U.S. ISO/RTO markets, especially ERCOT; assesses the business impacts of PRRs and stakeholder developments.
• Creates and upholds internal compliance policies, procedures, and controls that are customized for each ISO/RTO in which the company operates.
• Conducts regular internal audits and gap analyses across trading, scheduling, settlements, and operations to address multi-market compliance exposure.
• Manages all necessary filings, notifications, and reports to ERCOT, PUCT, FERC, and other relevant regulatory authorities in a timely and accurate manner.
• Acts as the primary point of contact for ERCOT Market Surveillance, PUCT enforcement inquiries, and NERC/Regional Entity audit activities.
• Coordinates compliance calendars and risk registers across multiple markets, ensuring that obligations in all ISO/RTO regions are tracked and fulfilled.
• Designs and implements compliance training programs for operational, trading, and scheduling staff in all relevant markets.
• Collaborates with legal, finance, and operations teams to integrate compliance requirements into new market strategies, products, and systems.
• Engages in ISO/RTO stakeholder meetings and working groups, especially within ERCOT, to advocate for the company’s interests in rulemaking processes.
• Prepares executive-level compliance reports and promptly escalates significant risks to leadership.
• A bachelor's degree is required; a master's degree is preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of regulatory compliance experience in U.S. ISO/RTO wholesale energy markets, with a strong emphasis on ERCOT expertise.
• Familiarity with PUCT regulations and the structure of the Texas wholesale and retail energy market.
• Extensive knowledge of ERCOT nodal protocols, market rules, QSE/LSE obligations, ancillary services, and settlement processes.
• Proficient understanding of at least one additional ISO/RTO (PJM, MISO, CAISO, SPP, NYISO, or ISO-NE) market rules and compliance frameworks.
• Knowledge of applicable NERC Reliability Standards (FAC, BAL, IRO, TOP, COM, and related series) and their relevance to generation, transmission, and market participants.
• Practical experience in responding to ERCOT enforcement inquiries and developing mitigation plans.
• Experience with multi-ISO/RTO compliance across two or more markets concurrently.
• Acquainted with ERCOT's nodal settlement system.
• Proficient in using compliance management tools.
• Proven ability to independently manage multi-market compliance workstreams in a remote, fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical, documentation, and organizational skills with a keen attention to regulatory details.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; adept at conveying complex regulatory requirements to non-technical audiences.
