Inspector

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Conduct inspections for residential and commercial construction projects in accordance with the valid North Carolina COQB certification type, level, and jurisdictional authority.

• Assess installed work against approved plans, specifications, manufacturer instructions, and the North Carolina State Building Code requirements.

• Evaluate foundations, framing, structural elements, fire-resistance features, means of egress, accessibility components, weather protection, and other designated elements.

• Enforce occupancy, floor-area, and story limitations relevant to the inspector’s Building Inspector Level.

• Create electronic inspection reports in Permit Hub that include findings, code references, notes, and photographs.

• Detect unsafe conditions and code violations, communicating necessary corrections to contractors, owners, and project representatives.

• Organize scheduling, site access, reinspections, and closeout activities in collaboration with internal teams and jurisdictional representatives.

• Aid in jurisdiction-specific registration and approval processes as North Carolina municipalities become active.

• Keep inspection records, credentials, training documentation, and jurisdiction registrations up to date.

• Adhere to quality control, safety, confidentiality, and escalation protocols.

• Engage in continuing education and training for code updates.

⛳️ Requirements

• Possession of a current North Carolina COQB Building Inspector certificate at Level I, II, or III, or eligibility for a probationary certificate under an approved jurisdictional arrangement.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Successful completion of the COQB Law and Administration course along with the relevant Building Standard Inspection course and examination, unless a valid exemption is applicable.

• Relevant education and experience that meet 11 NCAC 08 .0706 for the certification level held or pursued.

• Practical understanding of building construction techniques, approved plans, inspection processes, and the North Carolina State Building Code.

• A valid North Carolina driver’s license.

• Reliable transportation and the ability to travel across the assigned North Carolina service area.

• Competency in using a smartphone, tablet, Permit Hub, email, and electronic documentation systems.

• Strong judgment, attention to detail, time management, and professional communication skills.

• Capability to pass relevant background checks and meet municipality registration requirements.

• Willingness to access active construction sites and work in both indoor and outdoor settings under varying North Carolina weather conditions.

• Ability to traverse uneven surfaces, climb stairs and ladders, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach confined or elevated areas when safe and necessary.

• Proficiency in reading plans and using inspection instruments, as well as carrying standard field equipment.

• Capacity to utilize required personal protective equipment and comply with site safety regulations.
