Inpatient Coding Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.

📋 Description

• Assign diagnosis and procedure codes utilizing the correct coding classification system for all inpatient care episodes, adhering to coding conventions, guidelines, and hospital policies.

• Review and analyze questionable documentation to guarantee the accuracy of the information and address any identified discrepancies.

• Ensure the correct selection of the principal diagnosis, principal procedure, and all relevant diagnoses and procedures.

• Maintain adherence to official guidelines (ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and/or AHA Coding Clinic), AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding, and policies and procedures of LifePoint Health Support Center (HSC).

• Achieve and sustain a 95% accuracy rate on quality reviews and meet established productivity standards.

• Stay informed about applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that affect the coding domain.

• Follow established coding workflows for service types, including managing compliance reviews.

• Initiate physician queries when documentation clarification is required.


⛳️ Requirements

• Education: An associate degree in a health-related field is preferred.

• Experience: A minimum of one year of inpatient coding experience in an acute care hospital is preferred.

• Certifications: Preference for Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credentials.
