This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Carolina.
β’ The Senior Inpatient Coder is tasked with accurately assigning diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient discharges at the larger McLeod Health facilities, focusing on more complex medical and surgical cases.
β’ Stays updated on all new coding advancements by participating in coding classes, reading articles on coding updates, and attending available seminars.
β’ Possesses the necessary knowledge and experience in inpatient coding to correctly assign codes that determine the principal diagnosis, identify and assign co-morbidities and complications, secondary diagnoses, present on admission indicators, discharge dispositions, hospital-acquired conditions, principal procedures, and secondary procedures on all discharged inpatient records to ensure the most accurate DRG assignment.
β’ Understands coding guidelines to effectively apply coding principles to cases involving extended lengths of stay, complex medical diagnoses, and extensive surgical procedures. This includes specialties such as cardiac, neurosurgery, orthopedic, pediatric, trauma, and vascular.
β’ Appropriately queries physicians when documentation in the medical record is unclear.
β’ Collaborates closely with Clinical Documentation Specialists to ensure the optimal DRG assignment.
β’ Adheres to department-specific productivity standards, maintaining a 95% accuracy rate.
β’ Performs additional duties as assigned.
β’ 1 to 2 years of inpatient coding experience within an acute care hospital environment.
β’ Licenses and Certifications: AHIMA Registered Health Information Technician.
