This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +32 more states.
• Evaluates intricate inpatient documentation with a high level of expertise to assign diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10 CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS.
• Assigns and ensures accurate code selection in accordance with Official Coding Guidelines and compliance with federal and insurance regulations using an EMR and/or Computer Assisted Coding software.
• Takes responsibility for coding high-value and extended length-of-stay cases for all patient categories.
• Acts as a subject matter expert for Coding department leaders and colleagues.
• Suggests updates to existing policies and procedures as necessary to align with government regulations.
• Works with the Clinical Documentation Improvement and Quality teams to ensure alignment in the DRG and reconciles each Medicare case from a CDI perspective.
• Manages clinician communication regarding disease processes on a clinical level to guarantee precise coding.
• Engages in payer audits and meetings by serving as a resource for coding-related audits, as requested.
• Coding Certification granted by one of the following certifying organizations: American Academy of Coders (AAPC), or American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
• Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or a related discipline.
• Generally requires 7 years of inpatient coding experience in an acute care tertiary facility, including familiarity with revenue cycle processes, Clinical Documentation Improvement, Research, and health information workflows.
• Advanced proficiency in ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
• Comprehensive understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Exceptional computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office products, electronic mail, and familiarity with electronic coding systems or applications.
• Outstanding organizational, prioritization, and reading comprehension abilities.
• Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
