Infrastructure Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Argentina.

📋 Description

• Daily management of VMware vSphere, vCenter, and over 200 virtual machines, including provisioning, patching, performance monitoring, and capacity planning.

• Management of Veeam Backup & Replication, encompassing job configuration, scheduling, monitoring, test restores, retention policy, and backup health reporting.

• Support for server infrastructure in collaboration with the Director of IT Operations, focusing on Linux server administration, patching, and lifecycle management, while also providing some coverage for Windows servers.

• Management of SUSE Manager (SUMA) for Linux patch management, configuration management, and software distribution across the server environment.

• Oversight of storage management, involving the monitoring and maintenance of the underlying storage infrastructure (SAN/NAS) to ensure sufficient capacity.

• Involvement in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) initiatives, striving for declarative and auditable infrastructure management for both on-premises and cloud resources.

• Participation in the IT Operations on-call rotation for handling infrastructure incidents and emergencies.

• Cross-Coverage Responsibilities: DataXstream aims to eliminate single points of failure in IT Operations. This position requires developing a working knowledge of the IT Systems & Security Engineer's domain to ensure continuity during absences.

• Basic monitoring of Addigy MDM health and policy review, with the ability to identify and escalate issues as needed.

• Awareness in security monitoring triage, with the capability to identify and escalate basic alerts following established runbooks.

• Understanding of endpoint inventory, including awareness of the Mac fleet status and active lifecycle activities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Foundational knowledge of virtualization concepts, with exposure to VMware vSphere or vCenter in any context (homelab, coursework, internship, or professional experience).

• Familiarity with backup and recovery concepts, with any experience with Veeam being advantageous.

• Experience in Linux administration, as DataXstream's servers predominantly run on Linux; proficiency with command line and terminal-based administration is crucial.

• Strong command line skills, demonstrating comfort in administering systems via CLI without reliance on a GUI.

• Familiarity with Linux patch and configuration management; any experience with SUSE Manager (SUMA), Ansible, or similar tools is a plus.

• Basic experience with Windows Server, as there are a limited number of Windows servers in addition to the Linux fleet.

• Understanding of networking fundamentals, including VLANs, DNS, DHCP, and basic firewall concepts.

• Scripting skills, with the ability to write Bash scripts for automation, task scheduling, and system administration expected; knowledge of Python is a plus.

• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work through problems independently.

• Willingness to participate in the on-call rotation and respond to infrastructure incidents as needed.

• Clear written communication skills, documenting what is learned and what changes are made.

• Proficiency in English.
