Independent Investment Committee Member

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Attend approximately 12 IC meetings each year (virtually; one physical annual meeting may necessitate travel)

• Offer strategic insights, identify risks, and support investment evaluations

• Review and analyze investment memos as well as quarterly portfolio reports

• Engage in final decision-making processes regarding investment transactions

• Provide insights for post-investment monitoring

• Contribute roughly 20-25 working days annually, including preparation and meeting time

⛳️ Requirements

• More than 10 years of experience in private equity, investment advisory, or corporate finance

• Demonstrated experience in making or influencing investment decisions, such as presenting to investment committees, engaging in credit or deal committees, or holding board positions

• Experience with exit strategies

• Required experience in African business, with a strong preference for familiarity with West African markets (e.g., Nigeria, Ghana)

• Experience in or knowledge of emerging markets (e.g., Southeast Asia) is advantageous, particularly in drawing parallels and providing comparative insights

• Familiarity with mid-sized fund structures (e.g., $75M)

• Understanding of investments in the $2M–$10M ticket size range

• Sector experience in clean energy, agribusiness, FMCG, or tech-enabled businesses is a plus, though not mandatory

• Strong comprehension of SME investing and portfolio review processes

• Ability to critically assess investment memos and financial reports

• Strategic thinking capabilities and sound judgment

• Capacity to provide constructive challenges and insights to deal teams
