This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.
• Model training and execution: train, implement, and synthesize extensive physics-based and machine-learning hydrologic models spanning regional to continental scales.
• Synthesis and interpretation: evaluate model outputs to assess performance, flow signatures, and hydrologic behavior, and effectively communicate results to the modeling team.
• Calibration and evaluation: calibrate, benchmark, and validate models, measure uncertainty, and diagnose the reasons behind the success or failure of predictions.
• Forcing and training data: create and quality-check model forcings while managing the training processes and datasets essential for these models.
• ML/AI methods: implement deep-learning techniques for hydrologic predictions, utilizing tools like NeuralHydrology and dHBV.
• Routing tools: assist in the development, testing, and enhancement of hydrologic and hydraulic routing tools, primarily using Python.
• Collaboration: engage with the Modeling, Science, and Platform teams by sharing well-documented, reproducible code, methodologies, and findings.
• Master's degree in hydrology, water resources, engineering, hydrologic sciences, applied mathematics, computer science, or a related field; or a Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of experience in training and running hydrologic, physics-based, and/or machine-learning models; or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of hydrology, preferably with a focus on ecological or environmental flows, and an understanding of water movement through watersheds and river systems.
• Proficient in Python, with experience in a deep-learning framework such as PyTorch.
• Familiarity with model forcing generation and training procedures for large-scale models.
• Comfortable working with large gridded and time-series datasets, Git, and Linux.
• Experience with machine-learning hydrologic modeling tools like NeuralHydrology and dHBV, or similar physics-informed and differentiable modeling methodologies.
