HPC Network Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan.

📋 Description

• Assist in the design, rollout, configuration, and upkeep of InfiniBand and Ethernet network infrastructures.

• Diagnose intricate network problems, such as connectivity issues, latency, routing challenges, and performance declines in hybrid settings.

• Oversee and enhance high-performance network elements, including switches, Host Channel Adapters (HCAs), subnet managers, and fabric setups.

• Execute, administer, and troubleshoot network security and firewall technologies (for example, Fortinet solutions such as FortiGate and VPNs).

• Track network performance, conduct performance tuning, and aid in capacity planning for HPC and AI networking systems.

• Work closely with compute, storage, and platform teams to effectively support HPC and AI workloads.

• Engage in incident response, provide on-call support, and promote long-term operational enhancements.

• Create documentation for network architectures, configurations, and operational processes, while adopting automation tools (like Ansible and Terraform) to optimize workflows.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in networking, system engineering, or data center infrastructure positions.

• Strong grasp of networking principles, including TCP/IP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), switching, VLANs, QoS, and network design.

• Practical experience or substantial familiarity with Linux operating systems and command-line utilities.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the capability to work collaboratively in a global team setting.

• Robust analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve complex network issues.

• Preferred: Exposure to or practical experience with InfiniBand fabrics and high-performance networking concepts (e.g., NVIDIA/Mellanox).

• Knowledge of or certifications in enterprise firewall technologies (such as Fortinet FCSS/FCNSP, CCNP/CCIE).

• Experience with large-scale HPC clusters, AI/ML infrastructure, or distributed systems environments.

• Understanding of RDMA, MPI, and low-latency networking principles.

• Proficient in scripting languages (such as Python or Bash) and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools for automation.
