High School Counselor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Louisiana, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Foster student achievement through a well-rounded school counseling program.

• Assist students in their academic success, social and emotional growth, as well as career and college preparedness.

• Strategize for students' postsecondary pathways, encompassing education, military service, and job opportunities.

• Aid students in applying strategies for academic success and managing their emotions and interpersonal relationships.

• Direct the focus of students and families towards college and career readiness.

• Conduct quarterly meetings with all students on the caseload to evaluate graduation plans and postsecondary choices.

• Provide classroom instruction aligned with student success benchmarks.

• Assess transcripts and other academic records for both new and returning students.

• Collaborate with faculty to create four-year graduation roadmaps and review student schedules.

• Guide students in course placement, including recommendations for Advanced Placement and enrichment tracks.

• Evaluate student data and formulate data-informed intervention strategies.

• Offer short-term counseling and refer students for long-term assistance when required.

• Assist teachers, staff, and parents through a comprehensive student support framework.

• Facilitate standardized testing, parent education, and professional development for staff.

• Advocate for students during individualized education plan meetings and other student-centered discussions.

• Support students and families with goal setting and academic planning.

• Serve as a change agent to enhance equity, access, achievement, and opportunities for all students.

• Travel for in-person professional development, student assessments, and other school-required activities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Valid School Counselor certificate.

• Bachelor's degree.

• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in counseling or advisement.

• School Counselor License.

• Capability to pass the necessary background check.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, web-based search engines, and database systems.

• Flexible working hours.

• Willingness to travel as necessary, including up to 20% of the time.

• Typically available during a 9-5 or 8-4 work schedule, as specified by the school.

• Ability to work independently, generally 40+ hours per week.

• Capacity to maintain a professional home office environment free from distractions during work hours.

• Master's degree in school counseling.

• Familiarity with distance learning methodologies.

• Advanced coursework in counseling and administration.

• Teaching experience.

• Background in a customer service setting.

• Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and mandated reporting obligations.

• Experience in a charter school environment is preferred.

• Familiarity with state career planning systems, Pathfinder, or similar career planning tools/platforms.
