Head of UX

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Act as a champion for design and research, partnering strategically to influence the roadmap.

• Collaborate with Product Leadership to convert strategic business objectives into a well-defined, sequenced roadmap for Design & Research.

• Establish a clear vision for the design and research function, outlining success metrics, future direction, and its contribution to the overall company strategy.

• Enhance design and research maturity by providing constructive feedback and quality oversight to ensure high-quality product outcomes.

• Create an environment for the team to engage in foundational initiatives that amplify team impact, such as evolving the component library into a comprehensive design system and developing clear design and content playbooks to promote consistency, efficiency, and quality.

• Define the strategic direction for incorporating AI into the design & research workflow, identifying areas for acceleration and where human craftsmanship is essential, while establishing clear guidelines for broader organizational use.

• Cultivate a culture in which the team integrates AI into their product work, enhancing their craft and building expertise through practice.

• Ensure that designers and researchers significantly influence product and AI direction, basing decisions on user insights and design perspectives.

• Promote the integration of Design Thinking throughout the product life cycle, shaping concepts and guiding decision-making.

• Actively identify significant strategic UX opportunities that span the product landscape.

• Manage competing priorities between leadership directives and team capabilities, ensuring the focus remains on high-impact projects.

• Provide continuous coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback through regular one-on-ones, concentrating on the development and growth of your team.

• Develop clear career frameworks and advancement pathways for Design and Research.

• Foster a culture of continuous learning, adaptability, and professional development within the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• A genuine comprehension of both design and research fields, even if your expertise leans toward one. You don't need to be an expert in both, but you must value and support both equally.

• Proven experience in a senior design leadership role is essential—you've owned a function, led teams of designers and researchers, and have a history of influencing product direction at the leadership level.

• A record of advocating for both disciplines at the leadership level and shaping product strategy, rather than merely executing it.

• Experience in building or advancing a design function: creating processes, systems, playbooks, or operational methods from the ground up.

• An inquisitive nature regarding AI and its impact on design and research teams—you don’t need to be an expert, but you should be enthusiastic about exploring this with the team.

• A strong communicator capable of articulating design value in a way that resonates with leadership, product, and engineering teams.
