Head of Projects, Risk and Safety

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement a contemporary risk culture across strategic, operational, reputational, and financial areas.

• Monitor for emerging risks, implement appropriate controls, and provide updates to the CEO, Senior Executive Team, and Board committees.

• Facilitate strategic decision-making by balancing commercial objectives with governance, resilience, and sustainability.

• Serve as British Rowing’s qualified adviser in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.

• Lead the planning for crisis response, supervise serious incident investigations, and manage relationships with insurers and claims handlers.

• Enhance organizational capability through training for staff and volunteers.

• Foster constructive partnerships with waterway and external stakeholders, including the Environment Agency, Canal & River Trust, and Port of London Authority.

• Lead evidence-based advocacy efforts with political and sector stakeholders.

• Advocate for rowing’s positive impact on community health, inclusion, waterway access, and environmental stewardship.

• Report directly to the CEO and provide strategic oversight in risk management, health and safety, external partnerships, and advocacy.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive leadership experience in shaping strategy and risk culture within complex organizations.

• Demonstrated success in stakeholder engagement, policy advocacy, or external affairs.

• Strong analytical and strategic decision-making abilities accompanied by sound commercial judgment.

• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

• Experience advising at the C-suite/Board level.

• Desirable: Professional membership or qualifications in risk management (e.g., IRM) or Health & Safety (e.g., IOSH/NEBOSH).

• Desirable: Experience in sport, leisure, public sector, membership organizations, or maritime/waterways sectors.
