Head of Finance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain daily financial dashboards and real-time cash flow models that encompass revenue, expenditures, cash position, contribution margin, purchase order schedules, debt, and advertising expenditures.

• Take ownership of both company-wide and channel-specific profit and loss statements while accurately classifying and reporting expenses.

• Oversee the month-end closing process in QuickBooks Online and manage relationships with outsourced bookkeeping partners.

• Handle banking and cash management responsibilities, which include reconciliations, vendor payments, wire transfers, payment methods, and banking relationships.

• Administer payroll via Gusto or a similar platform, managing onboarding, salary adjustments, off-cycle payroll, and worker classification.

• Identify, negotiate, and manage credit facilities and financing options.

• Create financial forecasts and scenarios related to inventory purchases, advertising expenditures, financing decisions, and working capital strategies.

• Collaborate with operations and supply chain teams on purchase orders, supplier terms, freight, landed cost of goods sold (COGS), inventory management, and product margins.

• Oversee sales tax compliance, contractor invoicing, accrual accounting, and other finance-related compliance obligations.

• Maintain financial records, projections, and documentation that are investor- and diligence-ready.

• Offer actionable financial insights to leadership and address urgent cash flow, payment, or financing challenges.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5+ years of pertinent finance experience, particularly with hands-on involvement in scaling a direct-to-consumer (DTC) or ecommerce brand.

• Experience in managing finance for a growing ecommerce business, with a preference for those who have scaled a brand from around $10M–$20M to $50M+ in revenue or operated within a $100M+ environment.

• Profound understanding of ecommerce unit economics, covering contribution margin, marketing efficiency ratio vs. return on ad spend, blended customer acquisition cost, inventory turnover, and cash conversion cycle.

• Practical experience in inventory-heavy ecommerce, including dealings with overseas suppliers, purchase orders, supplier deposits, freight logistics, and landed cost of goods sold (COGS).

• Familiarity with managing finances for a U.S.-based company, including W-2 and W-9/1099 classifications and U.S. sales tax considerations.

• Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online, alongside knowledge of Shopify, Gusto, payment processors, and DTC financing platforms.

• Experience in managing outsourced bookkeeping teams and conducting month-end closures.

• Excellent skills in financial modeling, forecasting, cash flow management, and scenario planning.

• Highly proactive, directly owning vital finance responsibilities.

• Quick to respond and adept at dealing with urgent financial matters.

• Available for full-time work without other clients or side projects, ensuring the client remains your sole professional focus.

• Capable of providing at least 5 hours of overlap with the hours of 9:00 AM–5:00 PM PST.

• Proficient and professional English communication skills.

• Experience in preparing a business for fundraising, acquisition, or financial diligence is an advantage.
