Head of Development – Data-Viz, B2B SaaS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Lead the Team: Mentor and develop our engineering team across Dataviz, Frontend, Backend, Integrations, and DevOps.

• Own the Architecture: Take charge of our overall architecture, technology selections, and platform scalability—maintaining a hands-on approach to understand the rationale behind each decision.

• Frontend & Backend: Direct our TypeScript/React development for both web and desktop applications, as well as our Go/Postgres backend.

• Dataviz Engine: Propel the advancement of our browser-based data visualization engine (TypeScript) and its interactive interfaces—the core of what distinguishes Vizzlo.

• Integrations: Manage the technology behind our third-party integrations, including Google Slides (Google Apps Script) and Microsoft PowerPoint (VSTO and Office.js, C# and TypeScript/React).

• DevOps & Ops: Oversee our CI/CD pipeline and deployment processes, ensure production stability on Vercel and AWS (ECS, RDS, …), and handle our Docker-based preview environments.

• Keep Us Safe & Sound: Assist in meeting our data protection and security standards, maintain up-to-date documentation and policies, and manage technical risks intelligently.

• Get Shit Done: Take initiative to advance the product—organize a release, troubleshoot a complex bug, collaborate with an engineer, or address a customer’s integration challenge.

⛳️ Requirements

• Outstanding written and verbal English communication skills (essential); proficiency in German is advantageous.

• Over 3 years of practical software engineering experience, including some leadership or mentoring experience—either formally or informally.

• Extensive, hands-on knowledge of the technologies we utilize—specifically TypeScript/React and Go.

• Strong experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, along with modern DevOps and CI/CD methodologies.

• Proven experience in developing third-party integrations and designing clean APIs.

• A history of delivering products in a SaaS environment with continuous deployment.

• A sincere passion for data visualization—and ideally some perspectives on its development.

• Excellent communication skills and business acumen: you understand that engineering decisions should align with business objectives.

• A proactive approach: you prefer to deliver a robust solution and iterate rather than spend months architecting in isolation.

• Bonus: experience with Postgres at scale, developing Office/Google add-ins, managing Vercel/ECS/RDS in production, or strong opinions on bar charts versus pie charts.
