This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Assist faculty and principal investigators in navigating the entire lifecycle of sponsored projects.
• Create, prepare, and submit proposals for grants and contracts.
• Ensure that applications and contracts adhere to agency and university standards, timelines, and deadlines.
• Enter and facilitate the review process for proposals.
• Reconcile budgets for assigned projects and generate detailed budget reports.
• Prepare adjustments and corrections to budgets for review and approval.
• Manage and supervise a designated portfolio of intricate grants and contracts.
• Develop budgets and justifications, ensuring their accuracy.
• Provide guidance to faculty/PI regarding administrative requirements for proposals.
• Coordinate various proposal components, including biosketches, justifications, and facilities/resources.
• Oversee compliance with submission and reporting regulations set forth by agencies and the university.
• Manage project portfolios, including budgets, reporting, and compliance schedules.
• Establish financial and reporting requirements for sub-recipients and coordinate sub-agreements.
• Reconcile monthly budget statements and process cost transfers.
• Prepare requests for re-budgeting or adjustments to funded projects.
• Maintain financial records and oversee patient-care expense charging and overdrafts.
• Manage project revenue and conclude funded projects.
• Develop plans for project management.
• Submit reports to the leadership of grants and contracts upon request.
• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a field directly relevant to the position; candidates with no experience are welcome.
• Successful completion of the Research Administration Academy (RAA) Onboarding Training and enrollment in a learning track within the first 90 days.
• Maintain certification(s) by fulfilling continuing education obligations.
• Ability to analyze data and draw informed conclusions.
• Willingness to learn evolving technologies associated with grants and contracts management.
• Proficient computer skills with a strong working knowledge of the MS Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing across all organizational levels.
• Capability to manage and prioritize multiple projects/tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to create both verbal and written reports.
• Familiarity with federal regulations governing research grants and/or contract activities.
• Understanding of Duke University policies, procedures, processes, systems, and offices concerning grant and contract submission and management.
• Ability to apply federal and university rules to effort allocation and costing for federally funded projects.
• Experience or capability to perform essential functions in SPS, R3, grants.duke, and SES.
• Understanding of financial processes and controls, including reconciliation.
