GIS Analyst – Geology, Mineral Resources

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assist in ongoing resource investigations conducted by USGS throughout the Western United States.

• Georeference historical geologic maps and extract data that has not been digitized previously.

• Assess mineral occurrence information derived from technical reports.

• Analyze satellite imagery.

• Develop geospatial databases.

• Produce publication-quality maps and figures for USGS scientific outputs.

• Work collaboratively with geologists, geophysicists, and other GIS professionals to ensure the precision of geospatial data.

⛳️ Requirements

• Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a favorable adjudicated Public Trust investigation (must be a US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident for a minimum of three years).

• A Bachelor’s Degree plus 6 years or over 10 years of relevant experience is required.

• Demonstrated strong proficiency with ArcGIS to facilitate geologic and mineral-resource investigations.

• Expertise in georeferencing and the development of spatial data is essential.

• Strong skills in geologic interpretation, including the ability to identify lithology, mineralization, geologic age, structural features, and mineral occurrences from maps, imagery, and technical reports.

• Experience in developing geologic and mineral-resource databases.

• Familiarity with aerial and satellite imagery is required.

• Ability to produce publication-quality geoscience products is necessary.

• Experience in creating Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) compliant metadata.

• Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, Spatial Analyst, Geostatistical Analyst, Image Analyst, Microsoft Office (especially Excel), Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Acrobat is expected.
