This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Produce 2-3 news stories on a weekly basis, with flexibility for additional reporting time as needed.
• Ensure accuracy in reporting, craft compelling narratives, and adhere to ethical journalism standards.
• Establish and nurture contacts and information networks at the provincial level.
• Cover breaking news events related to climate issues, including disasters and judicial rulings.
• Travel throughout Alberta as required.
• Maintain responsiveness to editors and team members.
• Explore innovative storytelling methods for online platforms.
• A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
• Over three years of reporting experience, preferably with an emphasis on politics, climate policy, urban issues, or a related area.
• Excellent reporting and writing skills in English.
• A strong interest in climate change news and an understanding of key political, policy, and business matters in Canada that influence the climate agenda.
• Demonstrated ability to uncover unique stories and perspectives rather than following conventional narratives.
• Proven experience using Freedom of Information requests and other investigative techniques.
• Additional multimedia skills such as photography, videography, data journalism, or social media proficiency are advantageous.
