Junior News Editor – Consulting

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.

📋 Description

• Review and refine AI-generated news articles concerning legislation, elections, voting records, and governmental activities.

• Verify facts including bill numbers, vote tallies, committee actions, and election outcomes.

• Enhance grammar, tone, clarity, and overall structure of the content.

• Identify and flag articles requiring additional scrutiny prior to publication.

• Adhere to editorial guidelines to ensure every article aligns with accuracy and stylistic standards.

• Assist in recognizing patterns in errors to facilitate improvements in the AI's output over time.

• Implement consistent standards across various story formats (short briefs, summaries, reports).

• Provide support to senior editors with workflow tasks and content management responsibilities.

• Aid in maintaining organized editorial queues in a dynamic, high-volume setting.

• Offer insights on effective strategies and areas needing improvement.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Political Science, Public Policy, or a related discipline.

• Some experience in editing or writing—internships, campus media, freelance projects, or entry-level positions qualify.

• Basic knowledge of the U.S. government and legislative processes.

• Exceptional attention to detail with a keen ability to identify factual inaccuracies.

• Ability to work independently and manage a personal task queue efficiently.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with general digital tools.

• Experience in political journalism, policy writing, or civic-related content is a plus.

• Understanding of AI writing tools (e.g., ChatGPT) is advantageous.

• Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) is preferred.

• Background or interest in data journalism or digital media is beneficial.
