This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Conduct research, compose, and disseminate news articles, feature pieces, and analyses centered on crop production and agribusiness subjects.
• Address subjects such as crop management, plant and soil health, regulatory updates, sustainability efforts, carbon initiatives, and commodity crop production.
• Provide timely coverage of breaking news and maintain ongoing reporting as stories progress.
• Generate original story concepts and carry out assigned editorial tasks.
• Work collaboratively with editors, reporters, freelancers, grain analysts, and meteorologists to develop thorough coverage packages and series.
• Build and maintain relationships with farmers, agribusiness leaders, industry experts, and other significant sources.
• Produce content in various formats, including written articles, photography, audio, video, and social media.
• Contribute to editorial planning and assist in the development of content strategies that engage DTN audiences.
• Leverage data and industry research to ensure accurate and impactful reporting.
• Travel as necessary to report on industry events, conferences, and on-site assignments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or equivalent practical experience.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience as a reporter, editor, or in a related journalism position.
• Excellent journalistic reporting, writing, and editing abilities, with a solid understanding of AP Style.
• Proficient in prioritizing news coverage, managing deadlines, and functioning effectively in a fast-paced digital media landscape.
• Familiarity with crop production, plant science, soil science, or a strong desire to gain expertise in these areas.
• Knowledge of digital publishing, content management systems, social media, and audience engagement strategies.
• Experience with word processing, spreadsheet applications, and digital media tools.
• Strong communication and relationship-building capabilities, with the ability to establish trust with farmers and industry stakeholders.
• Capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring accuracy and quality.
