This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in France.
β’ Take ownership of and enhance the GDPR Orchestrator (build & run): the fundamental engine of the platform, including its safety measures (preview/dry-run, audit trail) and operational health (deployments, on-call, observability). You will design the contractual areas built upon this platform and ensure its reliability as usage increases.
β’ Create the paved road (enable, teach to fish): develop documentation, templates, and self-service tools so that any of our 15+ areas can integrate with the platform and manage their own data rules and dependencies. You will mentor areas through collaboration and synchronization, building their capability rather than performing the tasks for them.
β’ Facilitate coordination across areas (the cross-area bridge): align legal, security, data, and data-producing areas on requirements, identify cross-area data dependencies, and address design trade-offs among them. You will take charge of the coordination while each area remains responsible for its own data and rules.
β’ Advance the foundational aspects: lead open platform design discussions to a conclusion and enhance the platform's capabilities as Alan's data, products, and scope grow.
β’ Senior-level experience (generally 8+ years) in backend or platform software engineering, or a similar role, with profound production ownership (API and contract design, data modeling, and managing what you deliver).
β’ You have developed and maintained platforms, libraries, or services that other engineers rely on, demonstrating care for the contracts you present to them.
β’ You are adept at working across multiple teams and influencing without direct authority, achieving consensus from legal, security, data, and product teams who do not report to you.
β’ You exhibit pragmatism under constraints: delivering sound, safe solutions and iteratively improving them instead of waiting for perfection.
β’ Strong plus: previous exposure to privacy, GDPR, or data governance, along with experience in an enabling or platform-team operational model.
β’ Explicitly not required: extensive legal expertise. Legal and security teams collaborate with this role; they are not replaced by it.
β’ Alaners enjoy a stimulating environment and benefits that ensure they are content, productive, and spend quality time with their colleagues.
β’ A strong culture: Newcomers to Alan often find our innovative working methods both surprising and delightful.
