Full Stack Product Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• You will transition between our primary backend (a Rails monolith that supports all functionalities) and our mobile application developed with Expo/React Native, along with various smaller JavaScript-based projects.

• You will carry features from concept to completion, which entails understanding the problem, defining the approach, constructing the solution, and ensuring it functions effectively for users.

• You will design, develop, and maintain the integrations that connect our systems in a clean and dependable manner.

• You will write proposals, document your decisions, share updates, highlight obstacles, and ensure the team remains aligned.

• You won't have a dedicated support rotation, but you will occasionally assist users when necessary.

• You will influence the thought process and direction of the projects you are working on.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional experience in full-stack development, with a proven history of delivering and maintaining tangible products.

• Strong command of JavaScript is essential, as you will be utilizing it frequently across various projects.

• Comfortable working within a full-stack MVC environment.

• Capable of designing clean, well-organized APIs and creating reliable integrations between systems.

• Ability to balance rapid development with quality, and consider how your contributions fit into the larger context.

• Write clearly and communicate proactively, especially in a remote, asynchronous-first team setting.

• Identify issues, propose solutions, and drive progress forward.

• Ruby on Rails experience is highly beneficial, though not mandatory.

• Familiarity with Expo / React Native is a significant advantage.

• Knowledge of database design and performance, including schema design and query optimization.

• Familiarity with Python is a plus.

• Previous experience in financial technology or with financial concepts is an added bonus.

• Strong opinions (and practices) regarding testing and code quality.
