Full-Stack Engineer – IM Chat Platform, Android Focus

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Singapore.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain client-side applications for an instant messaging platform, focusing primarily on Android.

• Create essential messaging functionalities such as real-time chat, group chat, media messaging, message synchronization, offline messaging, and push notifications.

• Engage in client-side architecture design, ensuring a consistent user experience across Android, iOS, and Web platforms.

• Utilize AI-driven tools (such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) to aid in cross-stack frontend development—reading, debugging, and modifying iOS/Web codebases.

• Integrate RESTful APIs and real-time communication protocols including WebSocket, MQTT, and gRPC.

• Manage local storage, create an offline-first experience, oversee message state management, and implement cross-platform synchronization logic.

• Enhance client performance by improving startup speed, memory usage, battery consumption, network efficiency, and UI responsiveness.

• Collaborate with backend teams on API design, integration efforts, and troubleshooting production issues.

• Serve in a senior capacity by mentoring junior engineers and contributing to technical design decisions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

• For Engineer positions: 1-3+ years of relevant experience; for Senior Engineer roles: 3-5+ years.

• Robust production experience in Android development using Kotlin and/or Java.

• Strong understanding of the Android SDK, Jetpack components, asynchronous programming, and modern client-side architecture.

• Essential: proficiency in using AI-powered development tools (such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar) for cross-stack frontend development.

• Capability to read, comprehend, debug, and make reasonable modifications in iOS or Web codebases with AI tool assistance.

• Familiarity with real-time communication protocols like WebSocket, MQTT, gRPC, or similar.

• Knowledge of messaging concepts including message delivery, read status, synchronization, local persistence, offline support, and push notifications.

• Solid grasp of client-side performance optimization, memory management, multithreading, and security best practices.

• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and Agile methodologies.

• Excellent debugging, problem-solving, ownership, and communication skills.
