Forward Deployed Engineer – Oil, Gas, Chemicals

Posted 1 hour ago

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.

πŸ“‹ Description

β€’ The Forward Deployed Engineer – Oil, Gas & Chemicals is tasked with promoting adoption, enablement, and value realization at client sites during pilot projects and initial engagements.

β€’ Focusing on one client at a time, the FDE ensures that Picarro's Fenceline Monitoring Solution and PicarroLink platform are integrated into Environmental, HSSE, and Operations workflows as an active, real-time tool β€” rather than just a passive data repository.

β€’ While delivery, commissioning, and hardware support are managed by Picarro's Operations and Delivery team, the FDE's primary focus is on the adoption and enablement efforts that influence whether a customer alters their operational methods.

β€’ Success is evaluated based on the depth and consistency of customer adoption, the quality of value achieved during the engagement, and the insights communicated to Customer Success and Product teams.

β€’ Engage in pre-sales discussions, technical working sessions, and pilot design β€” providing operational credibility regarding how PicarroLink fits into a customer's existing workflows, data environment, and compliance requirements.

β€’ Assist in defining what success entails and how it will be evaluated.

β€’ Maintain ongoing interactions with HSSE and Operations personnel to establish early alignment on objectives, cultivate relationships that facilitate access and credibility during deployment, and ensure pilot design accommodates real operational constraints.

β€’ Design and implement organized, hands-on onboarding for Environmental, HSSE, and Operations staff.

β€’ Foster confidence in PicarroLink β€” including alerts, dashboards, event interpretation, and daily data review. Develop site-specific superusers capable of training and sustaining adoption across shifts and personnel changes, thereby decreasing reliance on Picarro's ongoing presence.

β€’ Integrate this process into existing daily operational procedures and compliance practices, transitioning customers from reactive, schedule-driven programs to proactive, signal-driven operations.

β€’ Take ownership of ensuring consistent, meaningful daily use of PicarroLink across Environmental and Operations functions. Lead on the software side by configuring detection thresholds, alerts, and dashboards in collaboration with the customer team; demonstrate and embed digital working methods as the new operational standard.

β€’ Make the transition to real-time operations feel seamless and inevitable.

β€’ Collaborate closely with the assigned Customer Success Manager to maintain a real-time overview of adoption health, workflow integration progress, and value realization. Contribute to Quarterly Business Reviews, success criteria tracking, and customer health reporting. Ensure Customer Success has the insights needed to manage the account effectively.

β€’ Convert direct field observations β€” such as workflow gaps, usability challenges, and unmet customer needs β€” into structured, actionable product feedback. Act as a primary Voice of Customer input to the Product Owner and Industry Solution Director.

⛳️ Requirements

β€’ Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, chemistry, industrial operations, or a related discipline.

β€’ Over 5 years of experience in industrial or field-based roles encompassing emissions monitoring, environmental programs, industrial operations, or digital solution deployment β€” including significant experience leading on the software and digital aspects: training teams on platforms, promoting the adoption of data-driven tools, and embedding digital workflows into operational practices.

β€’ Comfort with real-time monitoring technologies: understanding of continuous emissions monitoring concepts β€” detection, attribution, LDAR, fenceline monitoring, VOC measurement β€” at a level sufficient to engage credibly with HSSE and Environmental professionals.

β€’ Proven experience in training and enablement: a demonstrated ability to deliver structured onboarding and practical training to technical and operational audiences; a successful track record of building user confidence and maintaining adoption across diverse facility workforces and shift-based environments.

β€’ Familiarity with industrial sites: comfortable operating on refinery and chemical plant premises, navigating site safety protocols, work permits, and the cultural expectations of major industrial operators.

β€’ Working knowledge of industrial data environments: familiarity with process control systems β€” DCS, PLCs, MODBUS, or similar β€” is extremely beneficial for understanding the operational context in which PicarroLink operates and for credible discussions with plant technical teams.

β€’ Strong interpersonal and communication skills: able to rapidly establish trust with frontline operators and HSSE/Environmental leadership alike; effective in translating technical data into operational decisions; capable of influencing workflow changes without formal authority.

β€’ Driven by industry transformation: genuinely motivated by the challenge of changing how the industry operates β€” as opposed to merely sustaining existing practices.

β€’ Proficient with AI tools: comfortable utilizing AI technologies in daily work to enhance documentation quality, structure feedback, and expedite playbook development.

β€’ Willingness to travel approximately 70% of the time to our headquarters in Santa Clara, CA.
