This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

• Write and report on 2-3 stories weekly focused on the South Bay food scene, highlighting openings, closings, and regional trends.

• Cultivate sources, explore social media, and research public records to discover and suggest unique story ideas.

• Collaborate with our video and audience teams to create and film occasional food videos for Instagram and TikTok.

• Contribute as necessary to the Chronicle’s broader Bay Area restaurant news coverage in the Food + Wine section.

• Work in collaboration with various teams, including audience, photography, data, and design.

• Minimum of two years’ experience at a daily newspaper, magazine, or web publication, or equivalent experience as a reporter and/or editor.

• Proven proficiency in reporting and writing, with a strong sense of news judgment.

• Capability to swiftly respond to breaking news while managing multiple projects with varying deadlines.

• Skill in crafting sophisticated, high-impact features based on original, in-depth reporting and insightful analysis.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with all newsroom teams and thrive in a dynamic news environment.

• Genuine interest in business reporting and a strong passion for the food and restaurant sector.
