Financial Counseling Representative

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota.

📋 Description

• Respond to inquiries regarding billing and provide clarity on incurred charges and financial obligations.

• Evaluate patients' insurance coverage, including Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and insurance denials.

• Clarify reasons for denials, explain insurance adjustments, report payments received, and identify pending balances.

• Review payment plan policies and assist patients in establishing payment arrangements.

• Assess eligibility for payment assistance programs and provide help with applications.

• Inform patients about insurance principles, coverage details, copayments, referrals, and effective coverage dates.

• Aid in completing medical assistance documentation and facilitate referrals to Medicaid, insurance aid, or disability programs.

• Guide uninsured patients regarding medical expenses and help set up payment plans.

• Engage with patients face-to-face, demonstrating empathy and managing strong emotions effectively.

• Calculate and provide estimates for procedure costs along with anticipated patient contributions.

• Advise on and collect prepayments for services that are not covered by insurance.

• Carry out guest service responsibilities as required.

• Perform additional tasks as assigned.

• Proficient computer skills to navigate online systems and utilize complex software with advanced features.

• Strong oral and written communication abilities to interpret and apply policies and procedures for clarification and problem-solving.

• Familiarity with third-party payers.

• Basic knowledge of bookkeeping or accounting principles is essential.

• Comprehensive understanding of insurance products.

• Capability to accurately read EOBs, identify adjustments and payments received, and compute pending balances.

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

• Post-secondary education is preferred.

• A minimum of two years of experience in healthcare services or health insurance is preferred.
