This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota.
• Oversee all essential finance functions, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and cash flow management.
• Manage accounting operations and maintain relationships with external bookkeepers, accountants, and auditors.
• Generate regular financial reports for internal leadership, the Board of Directors, and significant donors.
• Supervise the annual audit, IRS Form 990 submission, and other compliance obligations for nonprofits.
• Oversee both restricted and unrestricted fund accounting in accordance with grant and donor specifications.
• Collaborate with the Executive Director to formulate and implement a financial strategy that aligns with Tergar's mission and growth objectives.
• Develop and sustain financial models to aid in program planning, budgeting, and discussions with the Board.
• Offer insights and analyses to guide staffing strategies, program investments, and fundraising priorities.
• Enhance and streamline internal financial systems, policies, and controls suitable for a growing global nonprofit.
• Navigate the complexities of international finance operations, encompassing multi-currency transactions and cross-border contractor payments.
• Synchronize financial processes and reporting with the Tergar Mandala finance function.
• Collaborate closely with program and administrative leaders to ensure financial coherence with organizational objectives.
• Mentor and supervise finance team members, currently a small, cohesive group.
• A minimum of 5 years of progressive finance experience, preferably within a nonprofit, mission-driven, or growing/start-up organization.
• Solid understanding of nonprofit accounting, Form 990 preparation, and audit oversight.
• Experience in supporting Board and donor communication, including financial reporting and presentations.
• Proven track record of creating and refining financial systems and processes in a lean organization.
• Ability to shift seamlessly between high-level strategic thinking and hands-on daily execution.
• Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and project management abilities.
• Experience in international or multi-entity financial operations is advantageous.
