Field Technician 4

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Supervise the installation, repair, troubleshooting, upgrades, overhauls, and testing of marine machinery, turbine-generators, and gear-driven propulsion systems aboard naval vessels.

• Plan and manage field projects and assignments effectively.

• Interact with clients and offer technical direction to shipyard and Northrop Grumman teams.

• Lead factory hourly staff, engineering teams, customer labor, subcontractors, and ship’s force personnel.

• Operate autonomously at customer locations with remote technical support as necessary.

• Establish repair and resolution requirements based on engineering drawings and documented processes.

• Draft technical condition reports, procedures, and project documentation.

• Update management and clients on project status regularly.

• Provide technical assistance and guidance during the installation, modification, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of marine propulsion and power generation systems.

• Compile lists of recommended replacement materials.

• Identify root causes of reported issues.

• Oversee the disassembly and inspection processes.

• Design custom tooling, jigs, and equipment as required.

• Develop disassembly and inspection plans utilizing engineering principles.

• Analyze machinery and control-system challenges through discussions with customers, machine observations, troubleshooting plans, and control-system data.

• Monitor contract financials, scope, deviations from scope, and Requests for Equitable Adjustment.

• Occasionally perform hands-on tasks in heavy manufacturing and operational environments.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field with 8+ years of relevant work experience, or a Master’s Degree in a STEM field with 5+ years of relevant work experience.

• Proficient in reading engineering drawings and schematics.

• Excellent oral and written communication abilities.

• Strong customer service skills coupled with a positive attitude.

• Strong critical thinking capabilities.

• Knowledge of engineering root cause corrective action analysis.

• Capability to work onboard a ship, including climbing steep stairways and vertical ladders.

• Willingness to work extended hours, often 12-hour shifts, 7 days a week.

• Willingness to travel up to 75%, often with short notice of 24 hours.

• Ability and willingness to work night shifts.

• Must be a US Citizen.

• Capable of obtaining and maintaining a Secret Clearance.

• Preferred: degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.

• Preferred: hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge of steam-driven shipboard propulsion and power-generation equipment along with related subsystems.

• Preferred: experience in shipyard or ship-repair industrial settings.

• Preferred: working knowledge of machine shops, hand tools, and precision measuring devices.

• Preferred: candidates located near Norfolk, Virginia; Groton, Connecticut; or Kittery, Maine.

• Preferred: active Secret Clearance.
