Field Application Scientist – Image and Detection Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Connecticut, +5 more states.

📋 Description

• Deliver pre- and post-sales scientific application support for Imaging & Detection products.

• Create and conduct customer training through onsite visits, virtual meetings, workshops, webinars, and scientific presentations.

• Offer guidance to customers on experimental design, assay development, workflow optimization, and data interpretation.

• Resolve scientific, application, and workflow challenges across imaging and detection technologies.

• Assist customers in maximizing instrument value and enhancing performance.

• Collaborate with Technical Support and Service teams to address customer issues.

• Provide scientific expertise on microscopy, live-cell imaging, fluorescence assays, cell analysis, multimode plate-reader applications, western blot imaging, protein detection, image acquisition, image analysis, assay optimization, and quantitative data analysis.

• Support product evaluations, demonstrations, customer presentations, and scientific discussions alongside Account Managers and Business Development teams.

• Offer technical expertise during customer visits, workshops, and seminars.

• Foster relationships with Key Opinion Leaders and scientific collaborators.

• Represent Thermo Fisher Scientific at conferences, workshops, and customer events.

• Conduct seminars on imaging technologies, assay development, and workflow solutions.

• Stay updated on emerging technologies and scientific advancements in imaging, detection, spatial biology, and protein analysis.

• Relay customer feedback, application insights, and market trends to Product Management, R&D, Marketing, and Commercial Leadership.

• Identify new customer needs and opportunities for product innovation.

• Assist with product launches by providing field-based scientific expertise.

• Conduct technical training for internal commercial teams.

• Travel approximately 50% within the Northeast United States, with occasional travel to other regions as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related life science field.

• Over 2 years of laboratory experience utilizing imaging and detection technologies.

• Hands-on knowledge of fluorescence microscopy and imaging-based experimental workflows.

• More than 2 years of experience in designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting fluorescence imaging experiments, including sample preparation, staining strategies, controls, and image acquisition.

• Over 2 years of experience using multimode plate readers for absorbance, fluorescence, luminescence, FRET, TR-FRET, ELISA, enzyme kinetics, cell viability, or related assays.

• More than 2 years of experience with protein detection workflows, including western blot imaging.

• Strong comprehension of quantitative assay development and experimental controls.

• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and presentation skills.

• Ability to work independently from a remote home office.

• Willingness to travel approximately 50% of the time.

• Valid driver's license required.

• Preferred: PhD in a relevant scientific discipline.

• Preferred: experience in imaging core facilities or shared instrumentation laboratories.

• Preferred: familiarity with high-end microscopy systems, high-content imaging, automated microscopy, spatial biology, multiplex imaging, or spatial proteomics.

• Preferred: experience with image analysis software such as Celleste, ImageJ/Fiji, CellProfiler, QuPath, HALO, or similar tools.

• Preferred: practical experience with EVOS microscopes, Varioskan plate readers, iBright imaging systems, or equivalent technologies.

• Preferred: experience in delivering scientific presentations, workshops, or customer training.

• Preferred: background in a customer-facing scientific role such as Field Application Scientist, Applications Specialist, Technical Support Scientist, or Core Facility Scientist.
