📋 Description

• **Overview**

• The Fiber Optic Network Technician is tasked with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of two-way radio systems, fiber optic infrastructure, and telecommunications network equipment. This position supports both RF communications systems (including Motorola and Kenwood platforms) and fiber optic plant operations (both inside and outside). The ideal candidate should possess robust technical knowledge in RF systems, fiber networking, and IP-based communications, along with a dedication to safety, quality, and customer service. This role requires the ability to work independently or collaboratively in office, field, and outdoor settings.

• **The candidate must be able to reliably commute to Grand Teton National Park or Yellowstone National Park within one hour.**

• *Key Responsibilities:*

• **Fiber Optic & Network Operations**

- Execute inside and outside fiber optic plant installations, including Cat 6 cabling.

- Analyze, troubleshoot, and rectify fiber optic network issues.

- Conduct fiber testing, maintenance, splicing, replacement, and underground cable locating.

- Install, configure, provision, and implement telecommunications and infrastructure equipment.

- Support Layer 1 and Layer 2 networking operations.

- Collaborate with contractors, service providers, and local utilities.

• **RF Systems & Communications**

- Install, program, align, and maintain Motorola and Kenwood two-way radio systems, repeaters, and accessories.

- Diagnose and repair RF, audio, and network-related problems in mobile and base station radios.

- Perform bench and field-testing using service monitors, spectrum analyzers, and other RF diagnostic tools.

- Configure, test, and troubleshoot radio programming software and network interfaces.

- Assist with firmware updates, system upgrades, and integration with IP-based networks.

- Ensure adherence to FCC regulations and company safety standards.

- Offer technical support and guidance to customers and field personnel.

• **Safety, Quality & Compliance**

- Guarantee compliance with company and site-specific safety standards.

- Uphold a clean, organized, and safe working environment.

- Maintain accurate service documentation, reports, inventory records, and work orders.

- Perform general site maintenance (painting, cleaning, inspections, weed control, etc.).

- Respond to emergency network outages within required timeframes.


⛳️ Requirements

• *Essential Skills and Qualifications:*

• - A minimum of three years of experience in telecommunications, RF, or fiber environments operations.

• - An Associate degree or equivalent from a technical school (or comparable experience).

• - Familiarity with Motorola CPS/RSS and Kenwood, or similar platforms.

• - Experience with analog and digital radio systems (P25, DMR, NXDN, etc.).

• - Strong grasp of RF theory, antenna systems, and RF testing equipment.

• - Basic knowledge of IP networking and telecom infrastructure.

• - Capability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

• - Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).

• - Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

• *Preferred Skills and Qualifications:*

• - Two years of experience as a radio/communications technician (public safety, LMR, or similar), __**and**__ two years of fiber optic installation or construction experience.

• - FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL).

• - Cisco network training or certification.

• - Adtran Total Access training.

• - Experience with dispatch consoles, microwave systems, or IP-based communication systems.

• - Knowledge of FCC licensing and frequency coordination procedures.

• - Experience supporting public safety communication systems.

• *Work Environment/Physical Demands:*

• - Capability to climb ladders (over 6 feet) and work at various heights.

• - Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

• - **Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required (approximately 50–75%).**

• - **Must be able to reliably commute to Grand Teton National Park or Yellowstone National Park within one hour.**

• - Ability to obtain required certifications post-hire as necessary for the role.

• - Ability to pass and maintain compliance with federal background check and drug-free workplace standards.

• - Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency outages within 4 hours when needed.

• - Work performed both indoors and outdoors under varying weather conditions.

• - Exposure to construction sites, telecom facilities, rooftops, and confined spaces.
