Federal Compliance Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• WindBorne is seeking a driven Federal Compliance Lead to establish our government compliance function from the ground up and take ownership of it from start to finish.

• As the first dedicated compliance hire, you will report directly to the COO, ensuring that we maintain momentum as we expand into government software sales.

• You will guide the organization through the CMMC Level 2 certification, along with FedRAMP, IL5, and IL6, translating intricate federal regulatory frameworks (FedRAMP, DoD CC SRG, CMMC, DFARS 7012) into actionable decisions regarding technical architecture, documentation, and processes.

• Ensure that these decisions are effectively implemented by coordinating efforts across engineering, operations, and business development teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of experience with compliance audits (FedRAMP, PCI, SOC2, HIPAA, etc.) and previous experience in US Government compliance and auditing (FedRAMP, FISMA, NIST 800-53, NIST 800-171, US Government ATOs, etc.), ideally in a defense contractor or defense tech start-up environment.

• Proven experience in defining CUI boundaries and scoping assessment environments.

• Experience in writing or significantly contributing to a System Security Plan.

• Proficient with GRC platforms (Drata, Vanta, eMASS, or similar) and security tools for evidence collection and continuous monitoring.

• Experience in implementing security controls and assessing compliance in distributed applications on cloud infrastructure (e.g., Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure).

• A thorough understanding of complex cloud infrastructure and security concepts, including ephemeral technologies (e.g., containers).

• Proficiency in security concepts (encryption, authentication, etc.) and tools for continuous monitoring (Tenable Security Center, Burp, SIEMs, etc.).

• Strong project management abilities, capable of balancing and tracking multiple projects simultaneously to successful completion.

• Willingness and capability to obtain a US security clearance.
