Extraction Engineer, MEDITECH Expanse

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Extract clinical, financial, demographic, and other healthcare data from MEDITECH Expanse.

• Design and implement data extraction procedures from MEDITECH Expanse and related databases, repositories, interfaces, and reporting environments.

• Analyze the data structures, fields, tables, files, and relationships within MEDITECH Expanse.

• Convert the extracted MEDITECH data into HL7-compliant messages and structures.

• Create mapping and transformation logic between MEDITECH source data and HL7 segments, fields, and data elements.

• Develop, test, and troubleshoot routines for data transformation and HL7 message generation.

• Validate data for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and adherence to specifications.

• Conduct data profiling to identify missing, invalid, inconsistent, or duplicate data.

• Collaborate with integration engineers to ensure HL7 output is compatible with downstream systems and integration engines.

• Work closely with data conversion and migration teams on source-to-target mapping and reconciliation.

• Resolve issues related to extraction, transformation, mapping, and HL7 formatting.

• Support testing, mock conversions, parallel validation, and production migration activities.

• Maintain technical documentation for extraction processes, transformation logic, mappings, data structures, and HL7 specifications.

• Assist in data quality remediation and resolution of source-system issues.

• Ensure that processes comply with healthcare data security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in healthcare data extraction, integration, conversion, or migration.

• Practical experience with MEDITECH Expanse data extraction and/or MEDITECH data structures.

• Strong knowledge of HL7 v2.x standards and healthcare interoperability.

• Proven experience in creating, transforming, parsing, or validating HL7 messages.

• Experience with healthcare data mapping and source-to-target transformation.

• Direct involvement in a MEDITECH Expanse data migration or conversion project.

• Experience extracting data from MEDITECH Expanse for migration to other EHR systems, such as Epic, Oracle Health/Cerner, or other enterprise platforms.

• Familiarity with MEDITECH Expanse APIs, databases, reporting tools, interfaces, or other extraction methods.

• Experience with HL7 interface engines like Mirth Connect, Rhapsody, Cloverleaf, Corepoint, or InterSystems.

• Strong SQL skills with experience in querying relational databases and/or healthcare data repositories.

• Background in data extraction, ETL, transformation, reconciliation, and validation processes.

• Understanding of healthcare data domains, including patient demographics, encounters, orders, results, clinical documentation, diagnoses, procedures, and financial information.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Capability to work independently while collaborating with technical, clinical, integration, and project teams.

• Experience with scripting or programming languages such as Python, Java, PowerShell, or similar (preferred).

• Familiarity with ETL tools and data transformation frameworks (preferred).

• Knowledge of FHIR, CDA/CCD, and XML/JSON (preferred).

• Experience with MPI/eMPI, patient identity, clinical data conversion, and healthcare data quality (preferred).

• Experience supporting large-scale EHR implementations, migrations, or decommissioning of legacy systems (preferred).

• Knowledge of HIPAA and healthcare data security requirements (preferred).

• Understanding of ORM, MDM, SIU, DFT, and HL7 mapping/message transformation.
