This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Develop high-quality 3D environment art, props, modular assets, materials, set dressing, and world-building content across diverse visual styles.
• Utilize concept art, reference materials, style guides, blockouts, client direction, or ambiguous creative briefs to deliver clear and refined results.
• Construct, assemble, and integrate assets and environments within Unreal Engine, focusing on composition, readability, performance, and technical specifications.
• Support the entire environment art pipeline, including modeling, UV mapping, baking, texturing, material creation, optimization, engine integration, and final touches.
• Evaluate artwork from internal team members, partner studios, or external vendors, providing clear, constructive, and actionable feedback.
• Assist in converting broad client or project feedback into specific tasks, priorities, notes, and acceptance criteria for artists to implement.
• Aid in maintaining visual consistency across assets, scenes, and artists by defining quality standards, style expectations, and review criteria.
• Collaborate with art directors, leads, producers, technical artists, designers, engineers, and artists across various studios and time zones.
• Proactively identify production risks early, such as unclear directions, workflow gaps, quality concerns, technical limitations, or scheduling issues.
• Contribute to improvements in workflow and pipeline that enhance team efficiency and consistency.
• Document processes, best practices, feedback, and workflow guidance when necessary using tools like Confluence, Miro, or Jira.
• Balance visual quality, production efficiency, and performance needs while accommodating the requirements of each project.
• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a 3D Environment Artist, Generalist, World Artist, or a similar role in gaming or real-time production.
• At least one completed game or comparable real-time interactive project.
• A strong portfolio showcasing high-quality environment art, world building, prop creation, materials, and/or scene assembly.
• An excellent artistic eye for form, composition, lighting, material definition, scale, visual hierarchy, and style consistency.
• Ability to adapt to various visual styles, from realistic to stylized, based on project requirements.
• Experience in creating both individual assets and assembled environments/scenes.
• Comprehensive understanding of the full environment art pipeline, including modeling, UV layout, baking, texturing, materials, optimization, and engine implementation.
• Professional experience with Unreal Engine.
• Proficient in common production tools such as Maya, Blender, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Substance Designer, and Photoshop.
• Practical knowledge of real-time performance considerations, including LODs, draw calls, texel density, texture memory, collision, lightmaps, shader/material complexity, scene organization, and asset budgets.
• Strong communication abilities, particularly when providing feedback, clarifying direction, documenting decisions, or resolving complex problems.
• Capability to translate vague or high-level guidance into clear, actionable tasks.
• Comfortable working collaboratively with artists, leads, producers, and cross-discipline partners.
• Skilled in giving and receiving feedback in a professional, clear, and constructive manner.
• Demonstrates strong ownership, follow-through, and problem-solving skills.
