Engineering Tech Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• This is a lead developer position with three distinct specialization tracks. We create a unified real-time platform that integrates voice, desktop, intelligence, and AI — characterized by event-driven architecture, high throughput, and low latency.
• As a tech lead, you will take on a player-coach role — writing complex code within the squad while also guiding it.
• Your responsibilities will include developing Go services on the event bus, AI/ML services and pipelines, or connector frameworks for CCaaS/CRM/telephony — most engineers here will engage with multiple areas.
• The work environment is fast-paced and startup-like: expect 1-week sprints, Friday demonstrations, and a culture of rapid iteration and learning from failures.
• Services will be built on the event bus (NATS-class), utilizing high-throughput transactional data models and WebSocket backends.
• Your focus area will involve either AI/ML pipelines (RAG, streaming inference, evaluation) or connectors (CCaaS/CTI, CRM, SIP/RTP) or core platform services.
• You will be responsible for managing the latency budget and ensuring adherence to committed timelines.
• A minimum of 9 years of hands-on experience; you should meet the same language proficiency (HIGH++ Go, 3 or more languages) and the same standards for AI, debugging, and velocity as the Senior Software Engineer role — you must be able to out-code the squad you lead.
• Proven leadership experience in shipping complex real-time or platform products end-to-end, within established timelines.
• You will establish best practices by delivering high-quality work; you are responsible for the code-review standards and for fostering growth among your engineers.
• Ownership of delivery is crucial — you actively resolve blocked work rather than merely reporting it. A "show-me" mentality is essential: your squad will present functioning software each Friday.
• Maintain the respect of senior engineers through your technical expertise, and manage changes gracefully — priorities and technologies may shift.
• Experience with event-driven systems in a production environment (NATS / Kafka / Redpanda-class) is required — you think in terms of pub/sub. A strong background in WebSocket, real-time, low-latency systems is also necessary.
• You should have mid-tier or better experience with AI in code and product development — you’ve worked with LLM APIs, embeddings, RAG, or model serving, rather than just using a chatbot. Daily use of AI-assisted development to enhance your productivity is expected.
• A strong plus is a background in data graph/knowledge graph or hands-on experience with AI/ML model lifecycle (training, serving, evaluation).
• Efficiency in development is key — we prioritize speed. You should be able to deliver clean code swiftly, resolve your own blockers, and provide accurate estimates.
• Exceptional debugging skills are required — you can interpret unfamiliar code, a stack trace, or a problematic partner API and determine where to place breakpoints.
• Experience with GCP is preferred. Familiarity with voice technologies (SIP/RTP/SIPREC), CCaaS/CTI, or desktop-adjacent experience will be a significant advantage based on your specialization track.
• Specialization focus areas include:
• Backend/Platform: data models, event bus, plugin runtime.
• AI/ML: advanced Python, production GenAI/NLU, streaming inference, evaluation frameworks, RAG.
• Integrations: CCaaS/CTI platforms (Genesys, Amazon Connect, NICE, Five9), CRM connectors, SIP/RTP, fault-tolerant connector design.
• Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses.
• Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
• Flexible working hours and a remote work option.
• Opportunities for professional development and training.
• Dynamic and innovative work environment that encourages creativity.
