This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Lead, mentor, and cultivate a team of 6 engineers across various domains including streaming, data lakehouse, serving layer, and platform infrastructure — demonstrating genuine curiosity about each area.
• Support the team by eliminating barriers, protecting them from organizational distractions, and ensuring they have the resources necessary to deliver quality work.
• Take ownership of the quarterly planning and sprint execution: convert OKRs into actionable milestones with designated owners, timelines, and success criteria — and keep these updated proactively.
• Guide each engineer towards their next career level through specific development plans, timely feedback, and active sponsorship for promotions upon successful completion of their tasks.
• Advocate for engineering best practices: conduct design reviews prior to significant changes, utilize ADRs for architectural decisions, perform blameless post-mortems, and prioritize automated testing and data quality in every pipeline.
• Oversee the on-call rotation and incident response processes to ensure that reactive tasks do not hinder the team's capacity for development.
• Develop an understanding of the data cloud architecture — not for design purposes, but to ask insightful questions, foresee risks, and engage in meaningful discussions with stakeholders.
• Promote a culture of curiosity and continuous learning, encouraging engineers to explore new technologies, share insights, and challenge existing assumptions.
• Recruit outstanding talent to enhance the team with a focus on diversity, elevating standards, and complementing current strengths.
• Spearhead AI integration within the team’s engineering workflows — the team is tasked with AI adoption, and you will be expected to lead by example, facilitate this process, and assist engineers in incorporating AI tools into their daily development, code review, documentation, and debugging practices.
• Experience managing a team of 5–10 engineers focused on building data infrastructure, data platforms, or backend systems at scale — with a true servant leadership approach.
• A background in software or data engineering — you have hands-on experience and can comprehend a Terraform plan, engage in discussions around streaming architecture, and pose meaningful questions during design reviews.
• A proven history of developing talent: mentoring engineers towards promotions, providing constructive feedback that fosters growth, and building teams where retention is high due to a sense of value and challenge.
• Strong execution skills: you consistently create and uphold project timelines, recognizing when things are deviating from plan before your team informs you.
• Clear communication skills — capable of articulating a technical decision to a VP, writing a succinct incident report, and drafting a quarterly plan for your team.
• Collaborative nature and experience working cross-functionally with Product, other engineering teams, and leadership in a dynamic environment.
• A genuine interest in or curiosity about cryptocurrency and blockchain technology — while we can assist in your learning journey, your curiosity must be authentic.
• A proactive approach to AI-assisted engineering — you should already be utilizing AI tools (such as Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or similar) in your work and possess insights on how they transform engineering workflows, code quality, and team productivity. We seek someone who views AI as a force multiplier.
