Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Leads a team of software engineers

• Assesses drafts of designs for software enhancements and new products, including cloud-based or internet-related tools

• Prepares and delivers reports that detail project outcomes

• Selects, develops, and evaluates project teams to ensure operational efficiency

• Creates and executes roadmaps, resource allocation, project scheduling, oversight, and process enhancements for the team and function

• Identifies gaps and establishes the technical strategy for the team

• Engages in cross-functional initiatives and leadership meetings

• Champions the advancement of engineering standards and practices throughout the department

• Offers technical guidance and mentorship to engineers, recognizing individual growth needs

• Achieves results through skilled employees by setting project timelines, establishing priorities based on project goals, and supervising ongoing tasks

• Attracts, selects, and retains top-tier talent by actively participating in performance management and professional development for team members

• Utilizes AI tools and techniques to enhance software development processes, including code generation, testing, debugging, and optimization

• Applies AI insights to uncover patterns, automate repetitive tasks, and boost overall development efficiency and product quality

• Stays informed about emerging AI trends and best practices to foster continuous learning and innovation.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field with 8+ years of relevant experience and at least 2 years in a management role, or a combination of education and experience

• Proficient in multiple major programming languages

• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, including system design, architecture, and development practices

• Demonstrated success in a fast-paced development environment, focusing on improving practices and processes to enhance team efficiency, collaboration, and code quality in a large-scale organization

• Proven track record as a coach and mentor for technical staff

• Capacity to motivate oneself and others, prioritize personal workload, and adapt and excel in a dynamic team setting

• Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and interpersonal skills

• Strong verbal and written communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences

• Desired: Experience with Ruby on Rails and React

• Familiarity with AWS or Salesforce Platform, particularly in developing managed packages as part of the ISV Partner Program.
