• Leadership: You possess the capability to lead a team through your actions. As a leader on our development team, you inspire the values of kindness, diversity, quality, and ownership in those around you while offering constructive feedback to enhance team performance.
• Teamwork: Many challenges we face require insights from various sectors of the business. Your ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with your colleagues is crucial to our collective success.
• Architecture: You have a solid grasp of the foundational elements necessary for creating a robust and scalable system. You can break down business challenges into well-structured systems. Your experience equips you with the knowledge of what to construct and the discipline to recognize what to avoid.
• CS Fundamentals: You possess an understanding of algorithms, data structures, design patterns, and data storage technologies. You are skilled at choosing the appropriate tool for each task.
• Delivery Focused: Code on a laptop does not resolve issues. You understand that a project is only complete once it has been delivered and validated. Tackling residential construction presents significant challenges, and you are motivated to finish a project knowing that more challenges lie ahead, all while maintaining high quality.
• Passion: Solving complex problems is not an overnight feat. It requires a unique mindset and determination to disrupt an established industry. Your enthusiasm is something you share with every colleague at Joist— a passion for technology, teamwork, transformation, and building a product that revolutionizes the industry.
• Over 2 years of experience leading engineers as their direct manager within a product development setting, ideally managing teams across multiple technology stacks.
• More than 5 years of professional experience as a software developer working in agile teams.
• A proven history of mentoring and developing other engineers throughout your career.
• Experience managing cross-functional product squads that encompass Product Management, Design, and QA/SDET partners.
• A demonstrated ability to take ownership of software projects, from initial scoping and estimation to live deployment in production.
• Experience and enthusiasm for Agile, DevOps, and Lean methodologies in delivering software and value to our customers.
• Proficiency in collaborating with Product Management to experiment, iterate, and deliver quickly for customers.
• The ability to convey complex technical topics clearly and succinctly in an easily understandable manner.
• You have strong opinions on building exceptional software and products but remain open to the perspectives of others; you know when to be adaptable and when to stand firm.
• You are an authority in agile software development processes.
• Flexibility to work where and how you prefer within your country of employment—whether in-office, remote, or hybrid.
• Comprehensive wellness benefits, including an annual wellness stipend.
• Flexible and generous (FTO) time-off policy.
• Employee Stock Purchase Program.
• Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) with a 4% company match.
