Engineer Team Lead, New Markets

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Singapore.

📋 Description

• Design and implement scalable, mission-critical brokerage systems, including gRPC microservices, REST/gRPC APIs, and vendor integrations.

• Enhance the core platform to support multi-region, multi-currency, and regulatory environments globally.

• Take ownership of API quality, performance, and operational readiness for regional workloads.

• Lead, mentor, and develop engineers in Singapore; establish clear priorities, quality standards, and opportunities for career advancement.

• Collaborate with recruiting to manage regional hiring and interview processes.

• Promote knowledge sharing and foster an engineering culture throughout Alpaca.

• Serve as a senior escalation point for incidents impacting regional operations; enhance monitoring, alerting, and incident response mechanisms.

• Participate in on-call duties as necessary based on the team’s coverage model.

• Engage with Product, Compliance, and local stakeholders to address Singapore and regional requirements.

• Work collaboratively across time zones with U.S. and other regional engineering teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in backend engineering (Go or similar) and experienced in managing distributed systems at scale.

• Demonstrated staff-level impact through architecture ownership, cross-team technical leadership, and mentoring.

• Experience in people leadership, including direct or matrix management of engineers (1:1s, performance evaluation, project delivery).

• Familiarity with financial services, fintech, or brokerage environments: understanding of trading lifecycle, settlements, and regulatory frameworks.

• Exceptional communication skills in English; comfortable interacting with both regional and global stakeholders.
