Engineer – Substation Automation System

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Manage tenders from transmission system operators (TSOs) concerning secondary equipment for high-voltage substations.

• Plan and incorporate modern control systems into intricate substation environments.

• Design Substation Automation System (SAS) architectures in accordance with IEC 61850, including GOOSE and MMS communication protocols.

• Configure Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems and communication networks such as fiber-optic and Ethernet setups.

• Oversee interfaces with protection systems, TSO control centers, suppliers, and subcontractors.

• Develop communication matrices, system descriptions, and technical specifications.

• Create testing protocols and prepare for as well as conduct Factory and Site Acceptance Tests (FAT/SAT).

• Evaluate technical requirements from TSOs and convert them into effective system solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• A degree in electrical engineering, industrial engineering, or a similar field.

• Experience in control systems, Substation Automation Systems (SAS), or secondary equipment.

• Proficiency in control systems such as Siemens SICAM PAS/PQS, Spectrum Power, ABB MicroSCADA, or GE Grid Solutions.

• Strong understanding of communication standards like IEC 61850 (GOOSE, MMS, SV), Modbus, DNP3, or PROFINET.

• Familiarity with HMI/SCADA systems, including WinCC, Zenon, or Ignition.

• Knowledge of network design tools such as Wireshark or Cisco Packet Tracer, along with experience in fiber-optic and Ethernet networks.

• Awareness of cybersecurity standards according to IEC 62351, ISO 27001, and experience in configuring firewalls (e.g., Cisco, Fortinet).

• Proficient in both German and English.
